The primary objective of swine research at the SROC is to conduct multidisciplinary research, provide scientific/technical knowledge and expertise, and develop technology within the current plan and mandate of the UM Department of Animal Science and Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station resulting in increased production efficiency and environmental stewardship of the swine industry.
Swine research conducted at Waseca and the other research and outreach centers in Minnesota is focused on evaluation of novel feedstuffs and management strategies to improve economic efficiency in swine production. In addition, the pig is used as a model for solving human disease challenges such as diabetes.
Research results are disseminated to clientele through the swine training program, MN Nutrition Conference, Al Leman Swine Conference, MN Pork Congress, World Pork Exposition, news releases, SROC Web site, agricultural print and broadcast media, extension and peer-reviewed publications.
