Results are in from our sweet corn ear height study this year! We planted 14 hybrids on 5 May and tried to boost how high up the ears form on the plant, in order to make picking easier.
🌽In-furrow leonardite (mined humic and fulvic acids) didn’t increase ear height
🌽A mid-season gibberellic acid spray didn’t increase ear height
🌽Some hybrids made lower ears than others
🌽Especially small-seeded supersweets germinated poorly when planted that early
We’ve got ideas for things to try next year, keep your ears open!
